In person - 9/3-5 Exeter Way, Caloundra West

Matthew Goodyear started in banking in 1998 and yes, it's hard to believe looking at his photo, but he is about 10 years older than he looks! He holds a degree in Commerce majoring in Commercial Law and a Diploma in Finance Broking. He got in to property investment as an 18 year old. He can proudly say he made lots of mistakes at young age and now feels old and wise when it comes to finance and property. Over the years Matt has lost count of the number of people he has helped but he thinks he has settled somewhere in the range of $500M worth of loans. He describes being a broker as one of the best jobs in the world. "You get to meet and help people from so many walks of life, it's amazing to see the different life choices and paths people take". Matt has experience in residential lending, and has also helped many of his clients build their own home. He also helps his clients with their business, commercial and personal lending needs. Matt has been nominated for and won a heap of awards in the past, but ask him and he'll say the most rewarding thing about being a broker is when someone says thank you after he's helped them.

I think my favourite food would be

OMG there's so many! I love a really nice steak, pizza, laksa and lots of pasta but lasagne is probably my real favourite. Date night often ends up at an Italian restaurant where my wife and I consume too much of everything.

My favourite movie or tv series is

Favourite movie would have to be the original Star Wars. I'm not a sci fi person but I have so many fond memories of that movie growing up. I used to wear a karate uniform as a six year old, tuck a box of dental floss into my belt and one of those hand held mechanical egg beaters and run around the house pretending to be Luke Skywalker, shooting up the bad guys and using my dental floss to swing to safety.

Something people don't know about me is

I spent the better part of a decade working in Canberra catching bad guys doing naughty things like smuggling drugs, guns etc.

My favourite ice-cream flavour is

I have so many and there's so many gourmet flavours now and variety is the spice of life BUT Cookies and Cream can't be beaten if I just had to pick one.

My favourite drink

For those in the know it's a controversial choice due to some recent events but I'd have to say some of the best times in recent years have been had while consuming a ridiculous number of espresso martinis. I've also come across Gin in recent years and has become my main drink of choice... so clean and tasty

Why did you become a broker

I was bored and needed something to do. I find so many of the bank rules, policies and procedures completely absurd but that's the way things are and if I didn't help people they'd really struggle.

What do you like most about being a broker

I really like meeting everyone. Occasionally there's the odd grumpy bum but in general everyone that walks through my door has their own story, life and goals they need help with.

Some of the things that make me happy are

Out of everything I'd say one of the most reliable things are dinner parties with lots of good food, wine and conversation.

I'm currently trying to improve upon

Being a good father. One of my aunts 'Auntie Suzie' said before my wife and I had our first child is that having children would be the hardest and best thing we ever do..... She's been right so far. It's just one of those things in life that you have to learn as you go and a big thing to wrap your head around is that there's no "right" answer to parenting challenges.

I'm improving my health by

Time Restricted Eating has been a game changer for me. I've always been pretty active but working ridiculously stupid hours leads to excessive food and drinking. As at Dec 2021, I've lost 18 Kg in the last 12 months. I also have a PT three times a week. I train hard and she makes fun of me. Being a bit of a fitness freak in my twenties and into my thirties I never used to understand why someone would hire a trainer. Now I totally get it and it's as simple as adding a value to something you want and setting up a system/schedule to achieve it.

Something I love about my family is

They give me a purpose and reason to go to work everyday. I am constantly amazed at the sense of pride and joy I get, watching one of them do something amazing or achieving something they'd been struggling at e.g. my little girl making it across the monkey bars after falling off time after time (guess it's just called watching them grow up).
